Cell Groups

A 'cell church' is a church that places its main emphasis on meeting in small groups rather than just a large Sunday congregation.

What is a cell?

At King's we believe that regular Sunday morning church attendance is important, but we place a great emphasis on regular weekly small group meetings known as cells, which meet in members homes.

Typically, a cell consists of between 6-12 members. Everyone is encouraged to participate in the life of the cell as the members seek to care for one another, learn and pray together and introduce their friends and family to the wonderful news of God’s love.

Why cell groups?

Most of our cells are organised by geography so that local people meet together. It is far easier to give and receive help and support when the people in your cell live just around the corner.

Cells ensure that as the church grows, we don't loose the intimacy and closeness of a small church. In the cell groups we all share the responsibilities of church life and practice.

An increasing number of successful churches are adopting the cell group approach. Most of our cell groups are single sex with the aim of partners being placed in a corresponding cell. The cells often join together for social events.

Activities

The cell meetings usually follow a standard pattern but this may vary week to week

  • Welcome – which might be an icebreaker to facilitate openness and a relaxed atmosphere in the group or just tea and coffee.
  • Worship - coming before the Lord together to give praise and adoration and growing in our faith.
  • Word - discussing the Sunday morning teaching together with an emphasis on how to apply the truth to our lives.
  • Works - this is a time to pray and plan for cell outreach activities

Cell groups also hold social evenings, outreach events and provide practical help, support and encouragement on a day to day basis.

Getting involved

Cell groups are held in members houses and everyone is welcome to attend. Please contact the church office to get details of your local cell group leader.

Cell groups normally meet on a Tuesday or Wednesday evening starting between 7.30-8pm (check exact times with cell leader). Most cells usually aim to finish the main part of the meeting by 9.30pm.
