History of King's ChurchThe King's Church held it's first Sunday meeting in January 1987 with just 21 membersHistoryThe church started out as a small group of people from Eastleigh Christian Fellowship who lived in Bishop's Waltham. We began Sunday meetings in January 1987 in the Youth Hall in Bishops Waltham. A year later we moved to the Institute in Bank Street. Numbers increased each year until in 1994 there were 96 adults and 30 children and we had outgrown the Institute. In late 1994 we moved into our own building, The King's Christian Centre. By 1997 there were 125 adults and 40 children attending. Initially all children took part in the main Sunday meetings but as numbers grew this became less practical so in 1988 a crèche was started. A year later the Sunday school was added for older children. Later, in the early 90's, the Funday Club began to provide a more relevant approach to children's church. In October 1997 a new children's church, called The Wave was launched. In 1990 members met in one of three housegroups. The emphasis of supporting one another through small groups has always been part of life at King's. In 1997 the need for a more structured approach to church life became apparent and we made the transition to the 'Cell' approach which is still practiced in the Church today. Like biological cells these groups grow in size and multiply as new members join. There are now over 200 adults and children who attend weekly. |
